Website Analysis & Redesign
This was an unsolicited usability overhaul of the main website for popular author, Suzanne Collins. The goal was to find and solve usability issues. A quick look at the site revealed some obvious flaws. It was dated and the color scheme was dull. Some info appeared to be missing. There wasn't an obvious p see an obvious path for users.

After a more thorough analysis, the lack of obvious content transitions and a tendency for redundant information stuck out as the biggest usability pain points.

Background colors and rows were used to separate content groups. Removing redundant info and features freed up room to more prominently display the website's most interesting content. The redesigned site is much more functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Homepage Redesign
This website redesign employs usability best practices and graphic design principles to greatly improve the homepage. Information has been more logically organized and place. Redundancies and unnecessarily featured information has been replaced with more emphasis for primary focal point and messages.

The key to improving this website homepage was making choices. The original homepage simply featured too much content and presented too many choices to users. The most important elements were chosen and featured. Also, space was used to greater effect as much was wasted in the original design.

Four test participants were observed attempting five different tasks on the website. Being a large retail site, the hobbytown.com navigation was of particular interest in this study.
The main issues identified involved the site's information architecture or the site's structure element if looking in from a UX design perspective. The categories used to organize products were not very intuitive. Other small issues were found, such as the inability to locate a store by zip code; but in general, the site performed well.

Usability Test - Rock Auto
A usability test was conducted on the website rockauto.com and suggestions were made after reviewing the results. This report explains the methodology, findings and suggestions.

This test was conducted using three participants. Tasks were performed while an observer timed the participants and noted their actions and comments. The results revealed the site design to be unaccommodating to user needs. Much of the text and many of the links were too small. Conventions were also broken that left users feeling confused, such as non-clickable product images and a lack of affordances for some critical information.

The test was successful in that it identified actionable usability issues.
